Permit Requirements
If you are having a stair lift installed in Georgia, a permit and inspection may be required.
In Georgia, all residential stair lift installations require a permit and inspection. In other jurisdictions, a permit is only required for properties that are zoned commercial or industrial. This typically includes multi-family residential, churches, common public areas and outdoor environments as well. In Minnesota, a commercial installation requires a waiver, which must be applied for and granted before a permit can be issued.
In addition to a permit and inspection, most states requires special safety equipment or power sources if the installation is on a commercial property.
American Elevator will work with you to determine what is required for your property. In no circumstance will we install equipment without a permit where it is required by law. Further, we recommend you verify that any company providing stair lifts confirm that the permit and inspection fees are part of their written quote. As a property owner, you could be held liable for fines and loss of equipment in the event a stair lift is installed illegally.
